Sunshine defines the weather of Encinitas. The city boasts an average temperature of 72 degrees and yearly rainfall is estimated at nine to 11 inches. This 4,000 square foot beach makes it possible for anyone to camp out right on the beach?provided that they?re patient.

A unique local attraction is the Quail Botanical Gardens, located just a mile east of highway 101. This 30-acre garden features the largest bamboo collection in the United States, a 60-foot waterfall, a rainforest exhibit and a coastal scrub habitat. It is also home to more than 300 species of birds. Other attractions include the San Dieguito Historical Museum and La Paloma Theater, which is purported to have been the first theater to screen ?talking? pictures outside of Hollywood circa 1928.

The city is very active in promoting and supporting community and civic activities. Annual events include a 5K run/walk, a summer concert series by the sea, a holiday parade, a spring egg hunt, classic car shows, farmer?s markets, art festivals, theater productions and more. Encinitas? parks and recreation department offers recreational sports leagues for adults and children, as well as junior lifeguard training and surfing lessons.
